I even found an angle from which I could take pictures of her scene from the wings.
Only a couple of minor tech glitches. A stuck curtain and a surprise blackout.
The curtain cleared quickly. The Lighting Operator described the situation as:
"Blackout?!?!?!
Fuck, cue-1-2-4-GO
Fuck, cue-1-2-4-GO
Fuck, cue-1-2-4-GO
Thank God!!!"
Meanwhile the director is sitting next to her, not making a sound.
Finally, our leading lady came down with pneumonia last week and her understudy had to step up for Opening Night..
And Step Up she did! She was wonderful.
With only 2 days to get the roll down pat and work with the music/vocal director
to get her voice tuned, she sounded like she'd been rehearsing for the role the whole time.
